Baby Gear: Top Picks

Obviously having two kids makes me a complete expert on kids gear (yeah, right). I was however a complete psycho with our first daughter and did an insane amount of research before buying our gear. So here is another mom’s choices for (some) of the baby gear you will absolutely need, IMHO.

1. Infant Car Seat: Peg Perego Primo Viaggio 4-35
The thing they will live in for about the first 4 months when you leave the house. What I love about this carseat is that it is relatively lightweight (9.5lbs w/o base and 16.9 w/ base) and rated incredibly well for safety. Even better was the space. I was between this and the Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30. As the name suggests, the Peg Perego is suitable for babies up to 35 lbs. It also is a bit wider. And by that I mean, if you have viking babies like I do, they have room for their shoulders! I noticed that my daughter looked positively squished in the Mico Max.

2. Convertible Car Seat: Maxi Cosi Pria 85
Please skip over the Pria 70 and run straight for the 85. This carseat is so plush, has amazing safety features, easily machine washable..and has a cup holder! This convertible car seat is suitable for babies as little as 14 pounds. But I prefer to keep them in the infant car seat as long as I can purely because of convenience and portability.

3. Swing: 4moms mamaRoo
One word: epic. The best swing out there! With multiple motions and wireless control and audio capability (so you can play your fav tunes for the wee one) it’s basically everything you could ask for.  And from now until December 2017 4% of sales from the mamaRoo are being donated to Project Sweet Peas, a non profit that helps NICU babies. Even more of an incentive!

4. Portable Seat: 4moms bounceRoo
So this one isn’t a necessity per se -- but I highly recommend investing if your babe likes to be close (or you like your babe close). This lives on my counter! If I’m cooking, on the computer, tidying up...anything! This is basically another contraption to keep her entertained! My youngest is only happy if she’s close to me. So being in a jumper on the floor doesn’t last for very long. This way---we’re both happy and I can get work done!

5. DockaTot
Without a doubt this is what I attribute my youngest’s success with sleep as a newborn. It makes the baby feel secure while sleeping--it’s basically a cocoon that can also function as the perfect tummy time mat, play area etc. Well worth the rather shocking price. I’m about to purchase the Grand (next size up) to see her into toddlerhood

6. High Chair: Stokke Tripp Trapp
Is there anything better than the clean lines of Scandinavian design? (spoken by a Danish gal) The Stokke Tripp Trapp is a high chair that can see your child into adulthood...no joke! The simple design and continued functionality won me over! Who wants to buy a clunky high chair you won’t be using 12 months from now? With the Tripp Trapp, your child has her own seat (that fits into any interior style--muy importante) for years to come!

7. Stroller: Bugaboo Buffalo
I know you were waiting for this one! The stroller seems to be one of the main buys that people spend forever researching. I’m telling you now---look no further! There is a reason the Bugaboo has attained a cult-like following. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s almost stupid to spend this kind of $ on a  stroller...BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT. I was a complete stroller research-aholic. And insisted on ‘test driving’ everything. I had my list down to the Bugaboo Buffalo or Stokke Xplory. To be honest, they handled fairly the same; but the basket on the Bugaboo seemed WAY more functional than a drawstring bag (sorry, Stokke). Get your booty to a baby store and see for yourself! In terms of Bugaboo choices, we went with the Buffalo because of the wheels. Seriously. The Buffalo is all terrain and they mean it! None of this ‘detaching wheels’ nonsense. It’s also a bit taller and has more cargo space. Only drawback? It’s a bit heaver...but hey, get that workout in somewhere!
